Despite the efforts of many associations and volunteers to help them, the proportion of homeless continues to grow. Just United Kingdom, the number of people living on the street has increased 132% between 2010 and 2017.
To help them, the English associationHunger Action imagined self-service distributors of a new kind. These offer nourriture (fruits, sandwiches, energy bars) but also socks and toothpaste. The first distributor of this type was installed in a shopping center in the city of Nottingham. Volunteers come to feed the distributors every day by recovering unsold supermarkets.
They then distribute to the homelessspecial cards which allow them to use themselves freely in these distributors. These are accessible 7 days on 7 and Round the clock and each person can recover 3 items a day. The purpose of this limitation is simple: do not make the homelessdependent on this helpbut give them a boost to help them and improve their situation.
An excellent initiative that is developing in different British cities. In February, the concept will be exported to United Statess with the first distributor Hunger Action installed in the city of New York. To find out more, visit the official website of the association.
